Work and Weather are heating up at the Autism Center
2010-04-06
Spring has finally arrived in Cleveland. Trade Partners took advantage of our latest change in weather to begin their outdoor work. Barring any unusual (hold your breath, its Cleveland!) snowstorms or cold weather, we will continue working towards our July 1 deadline!!

Noise Isolating Curbs are installed on the roof. The Autism Center's HVAC system is designed to be incredibly quiet, preventing distracting noises from interfering with students and teachers. It is also a prerequisite for our LEED Certification.

This is a bird's eye view of the backyard/playground area of the Autism Center. Soon, a fence will be installed along the valley and the ground will be groomed to provide for several pathways and play areas. (Everyone loves eating lunch back there!)

The warm weather also afforded us a chance to do a spring cleanup and trip trees obstructing the security cameras as well as giving us a better view of the main entrance of the building!
March Madness Continues at the PEP Autism Center
2010-03-15
March is proving to be a busy month at the PEP Autism Center. Each day, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, insulation and sprinkler contractors populate the site. Everyone is doing a very professional job of communicating and working together to ensure a quality product that is delivered on time.

March comes in like a Lion at the Autism Center

The first week of March brought much activity to the Positive Education Program's new Autism Center. If you wanted to take a look at the site before all of the drywall is hung, you better hurry!!

A Leakage Test was performed on our HVAC system. We passed with flying colors!!

Drywall has been completely hung in several of the classrooms.

Our Electricians passed their inspection for the rough in of the walls. A Major Milestone!!
A Busy February at the Autism Center
2010-03-01
It has been an extremely busy month at the new PEP Autism Center in Fairview Park. The site has seemingly been completely transformed. At the end of January, many floors had been cut, there were no walls built and only a few cars were found in the parking lot each day. Today, not only are there no holes in the floor, there are walls built, plumbing and electrical in the ceilings and there are dozens of workers on site each day. It is almost hard to believe how fast it is all coming together!!

The Fred W. Denk company pours concrete in a future bathroom.

The Metal Stud Framing and installation of Resilient Channels (for noise control) have been completed.

Duct Work for the HVAC system is being hung and sealed to prevent construction dust from entering (LEED Point).

Insulation is being installed and drywall is ready to go up!!
Positive Education Program's New Autism Center
2010-01-25
Cleveland's Positive Education Program (PEP) helps troubled and troubling children and youth successfully learn and grow through the Re-ED approach, blending quality education and mental health services in partnership with families, schools, and communities. Starting as early as preschool, the program helps students suffering from emotional or behavioral problems. In its service to young people with autism, PEP focuses on developing skills that have real life utility for each child. Using positive and proactive strategies, PEP professionals teach young people with autism new ways of relating, communicating, and behaving.
In July of 2010, PEP will open the doors to it new, state-of-the-art Autism Center on Brookpark Road in Fairview Park. Krueger&Grealis will serve as the construction management for the 32,000 square foot, $4.5 Million building. These are some highlights of the project:

- The Autism Center will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certified Building. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
- There will be two schools in the building, an Upper and a Lower School. Each is designed to accommodate Autistic students.
- There will be multiple Life Skills Rooms, where students will learn to self perform everyday tasks such as laundry, conducting business in public, and preparing foods.
- There will be training and seminar rooms so that PEP can host programming to help educate parents and the community about Autism, and train them to be an active part of the education process.
